Interview with Charles Stanly Roberts, Jr. concerning his experiences as Chairman, acting President, and Chief Executive Officer of Roberts, Sanford, and Taylor Hardware in Sherman, Texas. Roberts discusses his family background, the establishment of the hardware business in Sherman in 1881, the incorporation of the business in 1897, his employment as a warehouser and truck driver for a hardware wholesale company, the store inventory, and his father's appointment as co-manager of the business in 1915. He also talks about the "Texoma" trademark and sporting goods products, his appointment as Vice-President and sales manager in 1939, the personnel, the reasons for liquidating the company, the problems of wholesale hardware and sporting goods businesses, their expansion into the Dallas/Fort Worth market, and the company liquidation in 1986. Roberts comments on their sales volume and distribution area, financing the business, employee relations, dealing with the Labor Department and OSHA, his civic and trade association activities, and business competitors.
